New Council to Receive Meeting Training: Public Welcome
By Brandi Makuski
The Stevens Point City Council on Monday will meet at 5 PM for an educational workshop held by City Attorney Andrew Beveridge.
The Council saw a major influx of new faces in the April 7 election. Alders Denise Mrozek (2nd), Garrett Ryan (3rd), Bryan Van Stippen (5th), Mary Kneebone (7th), Mary McComb (9th) and Shaun Morrow (11th) are all newcomers to municipal politics, with most having attended very few Council meetings prior to their campaigns.
Mayor Mike Wiza said the workshop will help alders understand the limits of their authority, which includes meeting procedure, Robert’s Rules of Order and state open meeting laws.
The meeting will be held in the multipurpose room of Lincoln Center, 1519 Water Street. No action will be taken by the Council and the public is welcome to attend.
