SPASH Boys’ Golf Victorious Again
CWS Sports Desk
The SPASH Panthers boys golf team seems to be picking up momentum as the Wisconsin Valley Conference golf meet moves forward.
The Panthers claimed victory in Leg 3 on Friday, their third consecutive team win. SPASH earned a team score of 319, which outdistanced second place Wausau West’s 328.
Wisconsin Rapids checked in at 382, good for seventh place.
Leading the Panthers individually was Taylor Thomas, who shot 76. Sam Hauser shot a 79 for the Panthers while Max Bancker and Jake Hofmeister carded a 82.
Thomas tied with Wausau East’s Matt Tuman for the individual low score of the day.
“We had a good day today as SPASH Panthers,” said SPASH coach Mark Vrieze. ‘Taylor Thomas hit the ball really well today and having someone back him up with another score under 80, Sam Hauser, really made the difference today. I think our team is really putting some good numbers up as we get further along in this conference race. Having other teammates today like Max Bancker and Jake Hofmeister shooting 82 helped as well. We played well and it showed today.”
With Legs 4, 5 and 6 coming up– Leg 4 will be at Greenwood Hills in Wausau on Tuesday, May 12– the Panthers know they have to keep their foot on the gas pedal to close out the conference season.
“The boys were pleased with the team score today, but they know they still can play better and are looking forward to doing that in the weeks to come,” said Vrieze.
