And Then There Was One: Levin Withdraws
By Brandi Makuski
Two residents have applied so far for the 4th District aldermanic spot.
Sam Levin, who was elected in April to the Stevens Point School Board, and business owner Heidi Oberstadt, have both applied for the seat left vacant when Mike Wiza was elected mayor.
Levin has since withdrawn his name from consideration.
Oberstadt has lived in Stevens Point since 2003 and is a UWSP graduate. In her application she says she is a proponent of conservation and recently served as a women’s membership coordinator for Trout Unlimited. She currently owns Photographic Memories by The Oberstadts.
“I’m very excited about the direction that the city council is moving, and I would love the opportunity to help continue to enact positive change in Stevens Point,” Oberstadt wrote on her application. “I love this city, and I hope that you’ll allow me the opportunity to serve our citizens.”
The city is still accepting applications for a new Council member through Monday. Interested candidates must fill out a declaration of candidacy, available online or at City Clerk John Moe’s office. Candidates are welcome to provide supporting documents such as a resume or cover letter, Moe said.
The Council will elect one applicant to fill the spot through spring of 2016.
