Leaders in Portage County have proposed lowering their salaries.
In the face of a tight 2016 budget, County Board Supervisor Tom Mallison on Monday moved for a decrease of the board members’ $50-per-meeting stipend by $2.
The county’s Human Resources Committee also approved reducing the county chairman’s $20,000 annual salary by $1,000.
The measure will need full board approval when it meets again on the third Tuesday in August.
