POTD: We Got Game

City Times Staff
Stevens Point Police Department officers and staff on Wednesday practice for the upcoming Guns & Hoses exhibition softball game.
The Guns & Hoses event debuted locally last year, raising about $48,000 for the Never Forgotten Honor Flight- an organization which flies veterans free of charge to the nation’s capital to view military monuments and veteran memorials. Those funds sent about 80 veterans to Washington, D.C.
This summer’s game will help raise funds to benefit the county’s veteran emergency relief fund.
Last year’s exhibition game between SPPD and the Stevens Point Fire Department lasted 7 innings and ended with the fire department besting the city’s police by a score of 21-11.
The 2015 event will continue to be family affair and will be supported by several area service organizations, to include the Marine Corps League and Mid State Sisters of Skate.
The game begins at 11 AM on August 22 at Bukolt Park.
