A Plover man appeared in a Portage County Court on Monday facing felony charges for fleeing the police on June 19.
Young Chang, 20, was arrested after a Stevens Point Police Officer spotted him revving the engine of his yellow Honda and speeding down Church St., apparently racing a motorcycle. The officer followed the vehicle as it sped south.
The officer turned on his lights and sirens in an attempt to get the vehicle to stop. The driver then increased his speed up to an estimated 80 mph. The chase continued onto McDill Ave., then Verrill St. and onto Lynda Lane, where the driver finally stopped.
Chang told the officer he was scared and admitted to racing the motorcycle, according to the criminal complaint.
Chang is free on a $500 cash bond and is due back in court for a preliminary hearing on August 31. He is also forbidden to drive without a valid drivers license as a condition of his bond.
