The 29-year-old man who allegedly sexually assaulted a young girl is being held in custody on a $20,000 cash bond.
Christian Greenup, of Amherst, was arrested in July after a 9-year-old girl told a social worker at her school the man assaulted her. He appeared in court via video from the Portage Co. Jail.
According to the criminal complaint, the girl told police she “tried to run away but (Greenup) held her down by pinning her arms above her head with his forearms.”
Greenup’s preliminary hearing is scheduled for Aug. 17. Until then he has been ordered to have no contact with the victim or her family.
Conviction of first-degree sexual assault of a child carries with it a maximum penalty of 60 years in prison. Greenup has denied any wrongdoing.
