New Goodwill Store Opens in Crossroads
By Jacob Mathias
A new Goodwill store opened on Thursday with much fanfare from new shoppers, a ribbon cutting and visits from store officials.
The 24,000 square foot building located at 1017 Commons Circle is the sixth store in Central Wisconsin, the second in the Stevens Point Area and the 26th store operating under Goodwill North Central Wisconsin.
“What you see here is a place where things happen,” said Dan Flannery, vice president of community relations for Goodwill NCW. “It happens for the people inside. It happens for the community. It happens for people who are looking for value and bargains and get them. But what you really see inside is the connection between what you do from a retail and donation perspective and the human services work that we do across the state.
Goodwill NCW resells the donated goods and uses that revenue to support their 27 programs and services that help “create jobs, offer training, and match assistive technology to those who need it. Others address financial, educational, developmental or diversity issues. All make our communities better places in which to live.”
Goodwill NCW supports 35 counties in Wisconsin from Manitowoc on the east to La Crosse on the west and Antigo to the north.
Cutting the ceremonial ribbon with an over-sized set of scissors was Travis Trzbetowski, a Goodwill volunteer and employee since 2004.
The building is the newest model for Goodwill stores and the Plover location is one of the first to showcase it.
“Isn’t this fantastic,” said Village of Plover Administrator Dan Mahoney. “We’ve got some of the most giving community folks that are in the entire nation and so to have them come and be part of our family, we’re excited about that…we thank Goodwill for being here, congratulate you on your store. We look forward to your continued success and we look forward to working with you from a community development perspective.”
The store is still hiring but when fully staffed will have 46 employees. For job offerings visit their website.
This is not a replacement to the existing Goodwill store on Hwy. 10 in Stevens Point and that store will remain open. The new store was announced in January and construction began in the spring.
Goodwill will be open daily from 9:00 AM to 9:00 PM and the donation dropoff will be open daily from 9:00 AM to 7:00 PM.
