First-Ever Hard Rocks Hiking Challenge to Debut Sept. 26
City Times Staff
A new hiking challenge will take Portage County residents through what’s being called a “breathtaking experience”.
The Hard Rocks Hiking Challenge, sponsored by Active Portage County, begins at 8 AM on Saturday, Sat. 26. The non-competitive challenge consists of a five mile rolling hike and an 8.2 mile hilly hike. There will be two rest/nature stops along the way and a brunch at the finish line.
Participants will receive a waist pack and water bottle.
Entry fee for the challenge is $20 before Sept. 13, with a $10 increase thereafter. For an additional $10 participants can receive a long-sleeved commemorative t-shirt.
Registration closes Sept. 22. For more information go to activeportagecounty.com or call (715) 344-2556.
Active Portage Co. President John Jury called Standing Rocks “one of Portage County’s best kept secrets”, adding the scenery through the park would “take your breath away.”
Participants should wear hiking or hard-soled shoes and are encouraged to bring walking sticks. Strollers and pets should be left at home.
Active Portage Co. also coordinates Walk Wisconsin and Moon Walk Wisconsin.
Standing Rocks Park is located at 7695 Standing Rocks Road.
