Maple Drive Roundabout to Open September 4

A newly-constructed roundabout at the intersection of Hwy. 54 and Maple Dr. in Plover, which two weeks ago was in danger of delay, is now on schedule with an opening date set for September 4.
At Wednesday’s Village Board meeting in Plover, Administrator Dan Mahoney reported the roundabout- which previously faced possible delays in reopening to traffic- was back on schedule for its early September opening.
Two weeks prior, Mahoney had told the board that a delay was possible due to some missing contracts regarding electricity between the Wisconsin Department of Transportation, which is overseeing the project, and Wisconsin Public Service.
“They’re just doing some final button-up work,” said Mahoney. “Cleaning up and minor landscaping. We have to landscape the center. That’s ours that we’re going to maintain.”
The lighting fixtures had also not arrived from the manufacturer and while they are still missing, temporary lights are being installed so the project can continue uninterrupted.
“Ultimately the intersection will be open on schedule,” said Mahoney. “It will be nice to wrap it up.”
The $2 million roundabout broke ground in May. Village leaders worked with the Dept. of Transportation on the new feature after public outcry following a series of serious accidents at the intersection.
