Laurel Scaffidi, 52, of Amherst Junction, died peacefully at home on her birthday, Saturday August 15, 2015.  Her death followed a nearly decade-long battle with a rare neurological condition.

This condition, which robbed her of many of her abilities, could not break her spirit.

Laurel was known for her endless energy, can-do attitude, sense of humor, and love of adventure.  She was passionate about all things horses and passed down her passion to her daughters, of whom she was immensely proud.

Laurel was born on August 15, 1963 in Valders, WI, the daughter of Edwin Mayer and Vera “Vickie” Mayer.  She married Don Scaffidi at St. Peter Catholic Church in Stevens Point on October 29, 1988.

Laurel will be greatly missed by her husband, Don, and daughters Alexandra and Abigail.  She will also be missed by sisters, Melanie (John) Albright and Lisa Mayer (Don Sharek); brother, Mark (Kathleen) Mayer; brother-in-law, Sam (Linda) Scaffidi; sisters-in-law Marjorie Scaffidi, Joanie (Jeff) Scheirer, Julie (Peter) Schmitz, Maria (Dave) Koch, and Carla (Dan) Gilchrist; many nieces, nephews, and friends.  Laurel was preceded in death by her parents and her parents-in-law Sam and Mary Scaffidi.  A memorial in her name will be established at a later date.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, August 27 at St. Bronislava Catholic Church in Plover.  Visitation will be held at 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service at the Church.  Also, all are welcome to join the family at a reception to remember Laurel from 4:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday August 26, 2015 at Sentry World, 601 N. Michigan Ave., Stevens Point.  Pisarski Funeral Home is honored to be serving the family.   For on line condolences please visit www.pisarskifuneralhome.com

The loving care that Laurel received allowed her to remain in her home throughout her entire illness. Special thanks to all friends, family, and caregivers who assisted the family with Laurel’s care.
