Walk to End Alzheimer’s on Sept. 19

The annual Walk to End Alzheimer’s fundraiser is scheduled for September 19.
The annual two mile walk is an effort to raise money for the Alzheimer’s Association, a non-profit organization which supports the advancement of Alzheimer’s research, provides support and care for those affected and promotes brain health to reduce the risk of dementia. All funds raised go towards the Alzheimer’s Association’s efforts to further the care, support and research of Alzheimer’s disease. This year’s fundraising goal is $47,000 and as of Monday morning over $15,000 has been raised.
The walk begins at the O’so Brewing Company in the Village Park at Plover. Registration begins at 8:30 AM and the walk starts at 9:30 AM. The walk will proceed rain or shine unless there is severe weather.
Donations can be made by the individual walking or in the form of pledges to an individual walker or team. Walkers who raise more than $100 will receive a t-shirt.
According to the Alzheimer’s Association, someone in the U.S. develops Alzheimer’s every 67 seconds and it’s the sixth leading cause of death. There is no cure or prevention for the disease. There are currently 5 million people with the disease according to the association and their predictions show up to 16 million could be afflicted by 2050.
