False Alarm Elicits Quick Response

Emergency response to a fire alarm at the Portage County Library was swift on Thursday.
According to library employees, a small child accidentally pulled the alarm around noon at the downtown branch, resulting in an evacuation and dispatch of Stevens Point firefighters.
A fully-equipped crew made sure the building was safe before giving the allowing employees and patrons to return.
Firefighters Frank Minervini and Dave Briggs said the youngster learned a lesson about fire alarms and expressed relief that they were not needed.
Business returned to normal downtown quickly and Minervini and Briggs did some community outreach with some local residents.
