St. Bron’s Hosting Marathon for Operation Boot Strap

Race still needs volunteers

By Jacob Mathias

St. Bronislava is hosting its third annual marathon race to benefit Operation Bootstrap.

The race is October 11 beginning at 8 AM beginning at Woyak Park in Plover. A full, 26.2 mile, or half marathon is available.

“We tried to find and create a course and an atmosphere that’s motivating, that’s safe and that’s really enjoyable visibly without being too challenging or too easily on the athletes,” said Donald Nack, event chairman.

All proceeds from the marathon will go to benefit Operation Bootstrap, a non-profit organization that helps families with basic needs during crisis situations.

The marathon came about as the vision of event Nack and his sister, race director Debbie Posewitz. Nack is an avid runner, having completed two iron man competitions and multiple marathons. Posewitz has a background in athletic training.

“I wanted to offer something up that could be used as a generator for contribution purposes to a good goal..and provide something that would be a little different from the typical types fundraising events that you see at parishes,” said Nack. “It’s kind of a mesh of things that I like between my faith and things that I like to do.”

Nack said about 170 runners are expected at this year’s marathon, which he said was typical of the past two years as well.

The run is also a Boston Marathon qualifying event, an option that Nack said runners are excited about.

Nack said the race still needs volunteers for the eight rest stops along the race route. Each rest stop has a different theme and the group with the favorite rest stop receives a prize for winning the Rest Stop Challenge.

A baked potato buffet follows the race, using potatoes donated by local farms. A selection of soups as well as desserts and beverages will also be available.

The registration fee is $65 for the half marathon and and $75 for the full. If interested, runners can still register for the marathon here. For information on the marathon or volunteering, visit www.stbronsmarathon.com.

Woyak Park is located at 2381 Cedar Dr. in Plover.
