SWAT Teams Called to Water Street

By Brandi Makuski
Residents on Water Street say they saw a heavy police presence approach and surround a home on the 1900 block of Water Street Saturday afternoon.
Eyewitnesses say they saw at least one SWAT vehicle and several police surrounding the home, and some say they heard police using a bullhorn to warn residents from the house to surrender themselves. One eyewitness said they saw two men being arrested.

Stevens Point Police Sgt. Mike Retzki confirmed the SWAT response, saying officers executed a search warrant but declined to give further details.
“Two males were taken into custody,” Retzki, who added there were no injuries stemming from the event.
He also said the Portage Co. Sheriff’s Office assisted with traffic control.
Detectives working the case were not immediately available for comment.
