A former resident of Plover on Monday was ordered held on half a million dollar cash bond following charges he sexually assaulted a child.
A trial for 64-year-old Micheal Herbert is scheduled for November. He had been charged with first-degree child sexual assault, exposing himself to a child and incest.
According to the criminal complaint, Herbert allegedly assaulted a young female family member several times over a period of three years.
In interviews with police he said he had “struggled with [the urges] for a long time.” The incidents allegedly occurred while Herbert was babysitting the child.
Herbert had recently been transported to Portage County from Missouri, where he was serving a prison sentence there.
If convicted, he faces over 100 years in prison.
