Joel M. (Michael) Dopp (formerly of Almond, WI) of Akron, Ohio died unexpectedly Wednesday morning September 9, 2015 in Akron, OH at the age of 54.

Joel was born July 7, 1961 in Stevens Point. He is the son of John L. and Martha S. (Stites) Dopp of Almond. Joel graduated from Almond High School in 1979. He then attended the University of Wisconsin – Stevens Point graduating in 1984 with a degree in Psychology.

He attended Kansas State University obtaining his Master’s Degree in Psychology. He went on to attend the University of Rochester of New York earning a second Master’s Degree and his PHD in Psycho-Neuro-Immunology. Joel did Post-Doctoral work at UCLA and served as an Adjunct Professor at
Oberlin University in Cleveland for a year.  The past decade he has worked as a Medical Science Liaison for Abbott Labs and Johnson & Johnson Companies working in the field of developing and delivering
medication to those individuals suffering with Rheumatoid Arthritis and Crohn’s Disease.

Joel loved music and playing the trumpet which goes back to his high school days playing for Almond High School. He was an avid reader and enjoyed swimming and working out to stay healthy. He appreciated art works and was a gourmet chef. Joel always had a strong desire for knowledge and learning. In Lieu of flowers a memorial in Joel’s name will be established at a later date. All donations will be given to the Almond Bancroft Department of Music.

Survivors include his parents John and Martha Dopp, one brother Pierce Dopp of Wausau and two Sisters Kelly (John) Schumann of Waupaca and Laurel Dopp-Brown of North Carolina. Funeral Services will be held at 6 PM on Thursday September 17, 2015 at the Pisarski Community Funeral Home, 2911 Plover Road, Plover. Pastor Louise Sanford  officiating. Family and friends may call after 4 PM Wednesday afternoon at the Pisarski Funeral Home until the time of services.
