One-Vehicle Crash Closed I-39

City Times Staff
A one-vehicle crash on Friday night forced authorities to close a portion of I-39 northbound just off the city’s east side for about an hour.
A Portage Co. sheriff’s deputies had closed the gate to the I-39/51 North off-ramp for about an hour beginning around 7:30 PM. A patrol car was stationed in front of the gate and another in the eastbound turn-only lane on Highway 10.
Traffic had been backed up for about a mile, according to witnesses on the scene, and several sets of emergency lights- as well as a long line of waiting vehicles- were visible along I-39 from the highway overpass, just west of Target.
A tow truck and ambulance were called the scene, but the dispatcher said “it wasn’t major” and there were no fatalities.
The gate was lifted and off-ramp reopened shortly after 8 PM.
