A Stevens Point man appeared in Portage County Court this week on charges he endangered safety with a deadly weapon during a domestic violence incident on September 13.

Elliott Adams, 32, was arrested by Plover police officers following a mid-afternoon incident at Patty Drive apartment building.

According to the criminal complaint, a woman at the home alleged Adams knocked on her door and threatened her with a knife. The woman later called police on Adams and another man who were engaged in fisticuffs in the building’s parking lot.

During the incident at her door, the woman said Adams cursed at her as he brandished a knife, and she threw a dinner plate at him in self defense. Adams slammed the door shut to avoid getting hit but then jerked the door back open, the complaint said. He then reached in the doorway and pulled her hair and punched her.

Another resident of the apartment confirmed the woman’s story to police.

The scuffle between Adams and another man continued in the parking lot until police arrived. Witnesses at the scene told police Adams had verbally harassed the other man and was carrying a knife.

He was was arrested for battery and transported to the Portage County Jail.

Adams appeared in court via video feed. Assistant District Attorney David Knaapen told the court Adams has two other requests for charges were pending in his office for incidents in July with the same female victim.

Knaapen said the district attorney’s office anticipates filing stalking charges against Adams. Due to a long history of domestic abuse involving the female victim, including restraining orders filed as far back as 2005, Knaapen requested a $10,000 cash bond, which the court ordered.

The court also ordered that Adams have no contact with the victim or the witnesses or their residences.

Adams remains behind bars. He is due back in court on September 28.
