By Brandi Makuski
The former site of Jackson Elementary was full of life for the first time in a decade on Thursday, as hundreds of local leaders and community members joined students and their families for the ribbon cutting of Point of Discovery charter school.
A majority of the school board was also present for the festivities, which included a tour of the new facility, refreshments and a displays of students’ work in the hallways.
PODS opened in September with just over 50 students. The school uses an expeditionary learning model outside of the traditional classroom structure.
The district also celebrated the opening of it’s new Professional Development Center, designed for teachers- and eventually parents and students- to receive training on the latest apps, devices and other technology relevant to student learning.
