Larry L. Beck, age 72, passed away peacefully at his home with his family at his side.

Larry was born on August 30, 1943 in Laporte, Indiana to Lester B. Beck and Lily M. Mlekodaj.
Funeral services for Larry will be held at 12 PM on Saturday, October 3, 2015 at Shuda Funeral Chapel Stevens Point. Visitation with family and friends will begin at 9 AM until the time of service that same day.

Larry graduated Rochester High School in 1961, Purdue BS in 1966 and the University of Chicago MBA in 1971. Larry had been employed with Purdue University Calumet for 24 years before becoming director of Facility Services of UWSP for 16 years.

Larry was a true leader not only for the UWSP campus, but for the UW System. Under Beck’s watch, the University Surplus Store was started in 1995. By selling surplus goods to the public that were no longer needed by the university, items were put to good use and did not end up in the landfill. The sales also provided income to the university.
He also initiated a number of other projects such as the green roof on the LRC bldg, the rain gardens, and the photovoltaic windows in the Noel Fine Arts Center. His projects not only made the campus more environmentally friendly, but the city of Stevens Point a more enriching community.

His hobbies included residential construction projects, biking, hiking and traveling. He was also a lifelong member of MREA (Midwest Renewable Engergy Association).

He is survived by his wife Jackie, his daughters Cara (John) Ziaya, and Ashley Beck.

Granddaughters Fiona Ziaya, Bianca Ziaya, Fairen Pasquier, Reveille Flanagan.

He is further survived by his siblings, Robert B. Beck of Indiana, Francine Beck of Indiana, Teresa Beck of Michigan and Julie Schafer of Virginia.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Wisconsin ALS Assoc.
