Mayor To Hold Office Hours on City Bus

Wisconsin Transit Week begins Monday, Oct. 5 and Stevens Point Mayor Mike Wiza will hold office hours on the City Bus in recognition.
Mayor Wiza will board the East Side/Crossroads bus at 1:45 p.m. at the downtown transfer center. At 2:45 p.m. he will board the North Point bus at the downtown transfer center. Fares for riders wishing to participate in Mayor Wiza’s listening sessions will be waived.
Wiza recognizes the important role that public transportation plays in our community’s economy, environment and quality of life.
“I am happy to participate in Transit Week by holding office hours on our City busses on Monday, October 5, 2015,” said Wiza. “While I’m always available to meet and talk with anyone, I hope that people will take this opportunity to experience a trip on our public transportation system.”

A few facts about public transit:
• In Wisconsin, 48% of riders use public transit to get to work and another 23% for education.
• Public transportation provides an affordable, and for many, necessary alternative to driving allowing them get to work, access health care, do their shopping, and visit family and friends.
• By 2035, an estimated 20% of the population will be over 65 years old. Providing mobility options is critical for older Americans.
• Time on the bus can be used to read, work, or interact with others via social media or texting – things you should never do while driving.
Wisconsin’s transit systems help ease traffic congestion, improve air quality, reduce gasoline consumption, create economic opportunity, and enhance our state’s quality of life.
