The Pacelli Cardinal’s varsity football team took another big loss Thursday night, falling to the Shiocton Chiefs 37-6.

Pacelli went into the game with a 2-4 season record, tied with Shiocton, but their only score came with just minutes left in the fourth quarter bringing their record to 2-5.

The Chiefs scored quickly with a six yard touchdown run by junior running back Austin Duenas at 9:18 in the first quarter bringing the score to 7-0. A five yard TD run by senior RB Mason Gomm at 1:17 in the first brought the score to 14-0.

The second quarter brought a slew of scores for Chiefs starting with a 33 yard TD run by sophomore quarterback Brandon Spencer increasing the lead to 21-0. Junior tight end Tyler Bedor  scored on a 13-yard pass and Gomm grabbed two points on a safety before sophomore halfback Levi Stueber ran for a one yard touchdown for the final Chief’s score of the game.

The score was 37-0 at the half.

A running clock for the entirety of the second half brought the game to a quick end but not before Pacelli senior QB Chris Shibilski connected with senior wide receiver Josh Berquist for a 50 yard touchdown pass with only 1:18 left in the game bringing the final score to 37-6.

Pacelli rushed for a total of only 44 yards led by senior RB Matt Helms with 42 yards. The passing yielded more results with 125 total yards.

The Cardinals take on the Iola-Scandinavia Thunderbirds on October 9 at 8:00 PM.
