Andrew Paul Mathias, age 25 of Alma, died at home of cancer on Monday, October 5, 2015.

He was born September 15, 1990 at the Chippewa Valley Hospital in Durand. The Mathias Family lived outside of Nelson at the time.

Andrew was a 2009 graduate of Alma High School. He then attended Western Indianhead Technical College in Rice Lake, Wis., graduating in 2011. He was employed by Finley Engineering in Springfield, IL as a telecommunications engineer. He moved back home to be near his family this past May due to his failing health.

He loved working with Legos, reading books and stories about time travel and he enjoyed all things electronic. He was a huge Star Wars fan. He especially loved his family and his many friends. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.

Andrew is survived by his parents, Paul and Karen Mathias, Alma, Wis.; brothers and sister-in-law, Jacob and Rachel Mathias, Stevens Point, Wis., Sam Mathias, Alma, Wis.; several aunts, uncles and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, LaVerne and Kathryn Mathias and his maternal grandparents, Kenneth and Valeria Olson.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday, October 8, 2015 at 11:30 AM at Lyster Lutheran Church in rural Nelson, with the Reverend Joel Bacon and Father Larry Green officiating.

Interment will be in Lyster Cemetery. Casket bearers will be Brady Ritscher, Mitch Schamaun, Tyler Fink, Marcus Petty, Tom Wick and Tyler Anibas. Family and friends may call at the Abbott Funeral Home in Wabasha on Wednesday from 4-8 PM and at the church on Thursday one hour before the service.
