About a half mile off the main roadway of Highway 66 sits the clubhouse grounds for the Bill Cook Chapter of the Izaak Walton League of America, home to the popular Halloween Happenings.

This year, the club needs a little help for the event’s biggest draw- the haunted hayride- on Oct. 31.

Mike Fuge, organizer of the club’s annual event, said they’re short on ghosts, goblins and zombies for the haunted hayride. Fuge said the event relies on volunteers to help set up and tear down, but it also needs people to jump from the woods and scare the passersby.

Based on previous years’ events, families have waited 45+ minutes for a ride through one of the many “haunted” trails which run through the 147 acres on the clubhouse grounds.

Often referred to by club members simply as “Ike’s”, the family-friendly conservation group boasts an impressive membership roster of more than 300. The group supports local conservation and stream improvement efforts, also working with local Scouting groups and other young organizations to get kids outside and learning about conservation, hunting and fishing.

Halloween Happenings is the club’s largest fundraiser of the year and brings hundreds of are residents- many clad in costume out for family-friendly Halloween activities including a haunted house, campfire, jack-o-lantern trail, raffles, candy, food and kids’ games.

Gates are open to the public 6-9:30 PM. Admission cost is $10 per carload and costumes are encouraged.
