Volunteers Still Needed to Rake 15 Yards

For the City Times
The United Way of Portage County Volunteer Center is in need of volunteers to help rake 15 yards that weren’t able to be raked during the Oct. 24 Make A Difference Day Rake-A-Thon.
During the Rake-a-thon, members of the community came together to rake yards for Portage County residents who needed assistance. More than 500 volunteers raked 130 yards during the event.
United Way of Portage County Volunteer Center Director Kayla Rombalski said there was a lower volunteer turnout than in previous years; however, the volunteers that were there went out of their way to rake extra yards. “We are so fortunate to have those volunteers who showed up Saturday and raked in the rain,” said Rombalski. “Their generosity is truly awe-inspiring.”
She said the 15 yards remaining to be raked are all in Stevens Point, with many near the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point and downtown. Raking can be done at any time – including after school or next weekend, she said. Most are medium sized and can be easily raked by four or more individuals.
Rombalski said people who wish to volunteer to rake those yards should contact her at [email protected] or 715-254-2192.
