Stevens Point Plan Commission to Finalize Maria Drive Project

City Times Staff
Maria Drive will formally become 33 feet wider on Monday.
City leaders began discussions on widening the roadway in late 2013 following the closure of Mickey’s Restaurant, a longtime north side staple. Widening the road would better align Maria Drive for pedestrians on either side of Second Street North, city leaders said.
Mickey’s was demolished in March, and construction on a wider roadway began in the spring. The City Plan Commission will approve amending the city’s official street map to reflect the extra 33 feet Monday night.
Plan commissioners will also consider granting a conditional use permit for a new parking lot on West Clark and West Whitney streets, and the Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Committee will make its first presentation since being created earlier this year.
The City Plan Commission meets at 6 PM in the Lincoln Center, 1519 Water Street. The public is welcome to attend.
