Victim ID’d in Fatal Plover Crash

A two-vehicle crash on the afternoon of November 2 has left one driver dead and another injured.
At 3:11pm on November 2, Plover Police were dispatched to a two vehicle accident at the intersection of Hwy. 54 and Grant Ave.
According to a release by Plover Police Chief Dan Ault, a 2008 Chevy Cobalt driven by 49-year-old Stevens Point resident James Waisbrot was struck by a 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee operated by 58-year-old Wisconsin Rapids resident Cheryl Schmanski.
Waisbrot was pronounced dead at St. Michael’s Hospital in Stevens Point shortly following the accident.
Preliminary indication is that Schmanski was traveling westbound on Hwy. 54. Waisbrot appeared to enter into the path of westbound traffic and was struck by Schmanski’s vehicle.
The driver of each vehicle was transported to St. Michael’s Hospital in Stevens Point. Waisbrot was extricated from his vehicle by Plover Fire Department and later pronounced dead at the hospital.
There were no other occupants in either vehicle.
Emergency crews were on the scene for about two hours. Plover Fire Department, Portage County Sheriff’s Office, Portage County Ambulance Service, Plover EMS, Portage County Traffic Incident Management Team, Wisconsin State Patrol and the Portage County Coroner’s Office all assisted.
The crash remains under investigation.
