State Superintendent Tony Evers will be in Stevens Point on Thursday.

Evers is touring several buildings in the Stevens Point School District, beginning with the new Life Skills Center. The center, which provides independent living skills classes for developmentally delayed students, held a ribbon-cutting ceremony in October some three years after it was first presented to the School Board.

The tour will be conducted by various district personnel, to include Dr. Lee Bush, interim superintendent, and School Board President Meg Erler.

Evers made headlines earlier this year when he decried what he called the “increasing politicization of education” in his state of education address on Sept. 17. In his speech, Evers also addressed a recent proposed state constitutional amendment which would reduce the autonomy of the Dept. of Public Instruction, which he oversees, and drastically reduce funds for administration costs.

The tour begins at the Life Skills Center on Thursday, Nov. 5 at 2 PM.
