Lawrence “Larry” Weiser

Lawrence “Larry” Weiser, 79, Stevens Point, a retired
University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point (UWSP) economics professor, died Monday,
Nov. 9, 2015, at Ministry St. Michael’s Hospital.


Funeral services were scheduled for 5 p.m. Thursday, Nov.
12, at the Shuda Funeral Chapel – Stevens Point, with Rabbi Dan Danson of Mount
Sinai Congregation of Wausau officiating.


Visitation will be at the funeral chapel from 3 p.m.
Thursday until the services.


Memorials can be made in his name to the UWSP Foundation and
Operation Bootstrap.

Mr. Weiser was born May 6, 1936, in Chicago, Ill., a son of
the late Berne and Molly (Levy) Weiser. He graduated high school in Chicago.


He served in the U.S. Army and received an honorable
discharge.


He earned a bachelor’s degree from Roosevelt University in
Chicago. He received a doctorate in economics from UW-Madison.


He was married to Julia Lovejoy in 1967 in Janesville.


The couple moved to Illinois where he began teaching at the
University of Illinois.


In 1972 they moved to Stevens Point where he began a 30-year
career at UWSP. During his tenure at UWSP he headed the Center of Economics
Education, was the chair of the Economics Department and was instrumental in “LIFE,”
the Learning Is ForEver program.


He also participated in sailing and golfing.


He served as president of the Mount Sinai Congregation of
Wausau.


Survivors
include his wife; three children, Jennifer (David Williams) Weiser, Evanston,
Ill., Michael (Emily) Weiser, Madison, and Margaret (Ken Stevenson) Weiser,
Madison; and three grandchildren.
