Dorothy M. Alakson

Dorothy M. Alakson, 94, Iola, a town of Dewey native, died Wednesday, Nov. 11, 2015, at ThedaCare Hospital in Waupaca.

Funeral services will be held at noon Monday, Nov. 16, at the Shuda Funeral Chapel in Stevens Point.

Visitation will be at the funeral chapel from 11 a.m. Monday until the services.

Mrs. Alakson was born Oct. 11, 1921,
in the town of Dewey, a daughter of the late Norman and Anna (Vicker) Nordbye.
She graduated from Emerson High School in Stevens Point and began working first
in Milwaukee and then Chicago.

She was married to Charles Alakson
March 26, 1945, in South Carolina. He died in 2006.

The couple lived all over the world
while he was serving in the U.S. Marine Corps.

The couple eventually settled in
Hemet, Calif., where she managed the local Meals on Wheels Program for 15 years
until she retired.

She moved to Wisconsin last January
to be with family.

Survivors include one sister, Betty
Taylor, Whiting; numerous nieces and nephews including, Diane (Roger) Firkus,
Iola, Sherry (John) Kell, Amherst, Jan (Dawayne) Waltenberg, Amherst, Victoria
Bannach, Plover, Phil Behr, Nevada, Judy (Jim) Kesey, Mosinee, Kenneth (Ann)
Soyka, Amherst, David Soyka, Stevens Point, Rose and Tom Scott, Linda and Jack
Kinney, Mark Taylor and Matthew, all of Stevens Point, Allen Taylor and Deb
Taylor, both of Wisconsin Rapids, and Jane and Mark Kraklow, Iola; and three
special friends, Virginia, Jim, and Marilyn.

She was also preceded in death by one
brother, Richard Nordbye; and two sisters, JoAnn Soyka and Margrett Behr.
