Lawrence “Larry” Weiser age 79, of Stevens Point died Monday evening November 9, 2015 at St. Michaels Hospital.

Funeral services for Larry will be held at 5:00 PM on Thursday November 12, 2015 at the Shuda Funeral Chapel – Stevens Point. Rabbi Dan Danson of Mt. Sinai Congregation will officiate. Visitation will be held from 3:00 PM Thursday at the funeral chapel until the time of services. Memorials in lieu of flowers can be made out in Larry’s name to the UWSP Foundation and Operation Bootstrap.

Larry was born May 6, 1936 in Chicago, the son of the late Berne and Molly (Levy) Weiser. He graduated high school in Chicago, served in the United States Army and upon his honorable discharge earned his bachelor’s degree from Roosevelt University in Chicago. Larry received his PhD in Economics from the University of Wisconsin – Madison.

He married Julia Lovejoy in 1967 in Janesville. The couple moved to Illinois where Larry began teaching at the University of Illinois.

In 1972 they moved to Stevens Point where Larry began his 30 year career at UWSP. During his tenure here he headed up the Center of Economics Education, was the chair of the Economics Department, and was instrumental in “LIFE”, the learning is forever program.

Larry also enjoyed sailing, golfing, and classic movies. He served as president of the Mt. Sinai Congregation of Wausau.

He is survived by his wife Julia, and their 3 children: Jennifer Weiser (David Williams), Evanston, IL; Michael (Emily) Weiser, Madison; Margaret Weiser (Ken Stevenson), Madison. 3 grandchildren: Benjamin, Sylvia, and Frances.

Larry was known for his humor, compassion, patience, generosity, curiosity, and thoughtfulness. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather.
