The Salvation Army will host its 2nd annual Kettle Walk on Saturday, Nov. 14, rain or shine.

The free 10-kilometer walk does not require preregistration and begins at 11 AM outside of Trig’s, located at 1600 Academy Ave. in Stevens Point. Donations will be accepted in red kettles at each of the five Kettle Walk stops to support the Salvation Army’s annual Red Kettle Campaign.

Walkers are requested to arrive by 10:50 AM to sign an event participation waiver form. The Kettle Walk will start and finish at Trig’s.

“The Red Kettle Campaign is our major fundraiser every year,” said Bob Quam, director of operations for the Salvation Army of Portage County. Quam said the iconic red kettle dates back to the 1890’s, when the Salvation Army began using it.

“The Kettle Walk is a nice way to call attention to the Red Kettle Campaign,” Quam said. “We have a goal of $135,000 this year.” A donation of $5 is suggested for each of the five red kettle stops during the walk.

The Salvation Army of Portage County will begin its Red Kettle Campaign at 9:30 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 13 at Trig’s with bell ringing to continue through Christmas Eve. Proceeds raised will support the Stevens Point Hope Center, located at 1600 Briggs St. in Stevens Point.
