A Stevens Point man arrested last year for multiple sexual assaults is now facing a jury trial.

Stevens Tibbets, 34, was arrested in March of 2014 after allegedly drugging and sexually assaulting an 18-year-old woman at his Town of Linwood home.

At the time, Tibbets owned Energy Cafe, an internet cafe and coffee shop, in downtown Stevens Point. After news of his arrest went public, several other women came forward, some claiming to have been drugged and assaulted in the basement of the business.

Tibbetts is charged with two counts of second-degree sexual assault for the March incident, when he allegedly lured a woman to his home and placed some type of drug into her drink. According to the criminal complaint, the woman regained consciousness with Tibbetts on top of her and was unable to fight him off.

A charge of fourth-degree sexual assault was made after another woman came forward with a complaint of a May, 2013 incident. That woman alleges Tibbetts invited her into the basement of Energy Cafe, where he attempted to force himself on her. According to the criminal complaint, the woman was able to convince Tibbetts to stop what he was doing and take her home.

Another charge of second-degree sexual assault involves a Dec., 2013 incident when Tibbets allegedly took another women into the basement of his business and forcibly removed some of her clothing, then attempted to force himself on her. After a struggle the woman was able to break free and leave the property, according to the criminal complaint.

An additional second-degree sexual assault charge stems from another incident in March, 2014, when Tibbetts allegedly raped a woman inside her Indiana Ave. home. According to the complaint, the woman had previously allowed Tibbetts to use her shower, but he instead entered her bedroom and forced himself on her.

Tibbetts also faces one count of felony bail jumping after he allegedly approached one of the women at a local grocery store. At the time Tibbetts was out on bail and under orders to avoid contact with the woman.

For each charge of second-degree sexual assault, Tibbetts faces a maximum penalty of 40 years in prison and $100,000. The charge of fourth-degree sexual assault carries a sentence of up to nine months in prison and a $10,000 fine.

For felony bail jumping, Tibbetts faces up to six years in prison and a $10,000 fine.

Tibbetts pleaded not guilty last October. His trial was originally scheduled for Nov. 5, but was rescheduled after various motions made by his attorney.

He returns to court for a two-day jury trial March 10, 2016 at 8 AM.
