A 33-year-old Stevens Point man is expected to plead out on charges of strangulation and suffocation, domestic abuse, disorderly conduct and two counts of felony bail jumping.

Justin Zastrow was arrested on Sept. 11 after a reported domestic disturbance sent police to his Prairie St. home. Upon arrival, police found Zastrow sitting on the front porch, from where he only said he “did not touch her” when responding officers asked what happened.

Police found Zastrow’s live-in girlfriend inside the residence. During an interview with police she said Zastrow came home drunk and an argument ensued. According to the criminal complaint, the disagreement become physical, and the woman said she was unable to breathe as Zastrow strangled her from behind with one arm across her throat. Officers observed a red mark on the woman’s neck, which was described in the complaint as being the approximate size of a golf ball.

At the time of the incident, Zastrow had been out on bail for Lincoln Co. charges involving possession of methamphetamine and related paraphernalia.

Zastrow was taken into custody at 12:41 AM and was released the following day on a $2,000 signature bond.

Without the plea, Zastrow would have been facing up to six years in prison for each count of bail jumping and the charge of strangulation and suffocation, 90 days for disorderly conduct and more than $20,000 in fines.

He returns to court for a plea hearing on Jan. 6, 2016.
