Gahart Phillip “Gay” Sannes, 96, Amherst, died Wednesday, Dec. 2, 2015.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 5, at the United Methodist Church in Amherst. Burial will be in lower Amherst Cemetery.

Visitation will be at the church from 10 a.m. Saturday until the service.

Mr. Sannes was born March 13, 1919, a son of the late Knut and
Emily (Phillips) Sannes of Scandinavia.

He was married to Henrietta “Hennie” Oyen in 1944. She died
in 2013 after 68 years of marriage.

He was a farmer and construction worker.

He and his wife sheltered 18 foster
children.

He traveled mainly to the western states.

Survivors include his children, Owen (Marlene) Sannes, Gary (Pam)
Sannes, Mary (John Mosey) Sannes, Jerry Hansen and Colleen, Bob and Roseanne
Kent, Bob and Sandy La Mantia and Julie Hansen; one brother, Gordon (Joanne)
Sannes; one sister, Nancy (Irwin) Johnson; 11 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

He was also preceded in death by one daughter, Kathy Hill;
three brothers, Kenneth, Truman and Norman; and one infant grandson.
