Inmate Charged in Jailhouse Assaults

A 34-year-old inmate at the Portage County Jail is facing additional charges after allegedly assaulting two fellow prisoners.
Brett Lieberman was previously convicted for second-degree recklessly endangering safety after trying to stab a Plover police office during an August, 2014 traffic stop. He now faces charges stemming from two separate incidents in October when he was behind bars.
Lieberman is accused of physically fighting with two different inmates between the two incidents, which occurred Oct. 8 and Oct. 22. In those incidents, Lieberman punched one inmate repeatedly in the head, and grabbed another inmate by the neck, strangling him.
He faces two counts of battery by prisoners, strangulation and suffocation, violation of state/county institution laws and disorderly conduct. He returns to court for an initial appearance on Jan. 8.
Lieberman pleaded out in the 2014 attempted stabbing this past October. He will be sentenced for that offense on Jan. 15.
