James A. Thoyre, 54, Portland, Ore., son of longtime Stevens
Point residents Howard and Arlene Thoyre, died Thursday, Nov. 26, 2015, at his
home.


A private celebration of life and a scattering of ashes will
take place in Wisconsin in July 2016.


Memorial donations may be made to Providence Hospice in
Portland, Ore., at www.oregon.providence.org.

Mr. Thoyre was born June 30, 1961, in Baton Rouge, La., a
son of Howard and Arlene Thoyre. He moved with his family to Stevens Point in
1962. He graduated from Stevens Point Area Senior High School in 1979.


He attended the University of Wisconsin-Madison (UW-Madison) where he received a bachelor’s degree in 1983.


From 1984 to 2010 he served as senior research specialist
for UW-Madison’s Center for Limnology. In October, 2010, he took a position
with a manufacturer of scientific equipment in Portland, Ore.


Survivors include his wife, Carolyn Bakula, Portland, Ore.; one
son, Jared, Hiroshima, Japan; one daughter, Amanda, Minneapolis, Minn.; his parents,
Howard and Arlene Thoyre, Mosinee; one brother, Greg (Sue) Thoyre, Pittsboro, N.C.;
one sister, Stacey (Tim) Thoyre-Runde, San Francisco, Calif.; one niece, Autumn
(Ben Reigel) Thoyre, Hamilton, N.Y.; and one nephew, Sam Thoyre, Clearwater, Fla.
