SPASH Basketball Rolls Over Wausau West

By Jacob Mathias
In a victory decided nearly from the start, the SPASH Panthers varsity boys basketball team defeated the Wausau West Warriors 77-24.
The Panthers came into the game after a 79-50 win over the Marshfield Tigers on Dec. 11. With the win over the Warriors, SPASH remains undefeated for the season with a 5-0 record. The Panthers are currently ranked the number one Division 1 team in the state.
SPASH quickly came ahead Tuesday night ending the first half 49-10 with many of the starting players already on the bench, giving the underclassmen an opportunity for substantial court time. In the final minutes of the second half, the Panthers’ defense began to falter and some rebound opportunities were lost.
Leading scorer for the Panthers was again senior guard Trev Anderson with 22 points followed by sophomore forward Joey Hauser with 18 points and senior forward Sam Hauser with 14 points. Anderson also added eight assists on the night and Joey Hauser chalked up eight rebounds.
Lead scorers for the Warriors were junior Justin Rager with five points, juniors Logan Grunenwald and Tommy Borta and sophomore Mo Sykes all with four points each.
The Panthers travel to De Pere on December 18 to take on the Redbirds at 7:35 PM. They then take on the Sauk Prairie Eagles at UW-Stevens Point on December 27 at 7:45 PM in the annual Sentry Classic Tournament.
