Robert LeRoy Steinke has announced his candidacy for the Portage County Board.
Steinke is running for District 19 supervisor, which includes the towns of Plover and Linwood.
In an email statement, Steinke said he hopes to address the need to “maintain and improve upon” county infrastructure and services.
He said he also plans to be involved with alternative sentencing for non-violent offenders to help in reducing the need for additional space in the county jail.
In his campaign announcement, Steinke referred to himself as an “area activist, as well as a member of the Portage County Democratic Party”.
Steinke is a member of Kursk Root Icon of the Mother of God Orthodox Mission in Edgar. He studied theology and political science at Concordia University.
In his statement, he said he is also active in promoting better equality for the LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgendered) community.
Dale O’Brien is the current supervisor for District 19. It was not immediately clear if he was running for reelection.
All 25 seats on the Portage Co. Board are up for election in April.
