Gary J. Welton, 76, Plover, died Sunday, Dec. 27, 2015, at Ministry St. Michael’s Hospital in Stevens Point.

Visitation will be at the Shuda – Plover Funeral Home in Plover from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday, Jan. 4, with full military honors at the funeral home at 1 p.m. Burial will be at Restlawn Cemetery in the town of Grand Rapids in Wood County.

Mr. Welton was born April 5, 1939, in Wisconsin Rapids, a
son of the late George and Doris (Adams) Welton. As a child the family moved to
Stevens Point, and he graduated from P.J. Jacobs High School in 1958.

He entered the U.S. Navy July 9, 1958, in Chicago, Ill. He was
honorably discharged Sept. 19, 1961, in Philadelphia, Pa.

He returned to the area and began his career at Sentry
Insurance in 1966. He retired from Sentry after more than 30 years of service.

His hobbies included collecting items such as woodcarving caricatures,
trains and Looney Tunes.

Survivors include three sisters, Margo Kealey, Madison, Sue
Hughes, Plover, and Linda Cantrell, Milwaukee; and nieces and nephews, Cheryl,
Cathleen, Keith, Chad, Tracy, Gary and Hannah.
