Snow Emergency Declared

The City of Stevens Point has declared a snow emergency in anticipation of today’s snow storm beginning at 6 PM and ending at noon on Dec. 30.
The winter storm warning for Portage Co. and all surrounding areas went out yesterday. The storm warning is extended through 6 AM on Tuesday.
As much as 11 inches of snow is expected in the area, along with freezing rain and heavy winds, according to the National Weather Service in Green Bay.
Bill Konkol, public works manager for the Village of Plover, said the village’s snow emergency was in effect from 6 PM on Monday to 6 PM Tuesday.
A snow emergency means, “no person may park, stop or leave standing any vehicle upon and street or any portion of streets” during the specified time. Vehicles in violation will be towed at the owner’s expense.
