Experienced Amherst boys basketball team eyes another run
With most of its team back from last year, the Amherst High
School boys basketball team will look to win its second consecutive Central
Wisconsin Conference-8 (CWC-8) Title this season and make a run in the WIAA
Division 4 postseason.
The Falcons returned all but one starter from their rotation
last season, when they finished 20-5, and entered this fall as the
second-ranked team in Division 4.
With a late start after the Amherst football team won the
WIAA Division 5 State Title Nov. 19, the Falcons improved to a 6-0 this season
after they went 2-0 at the 44th Annual Sentry Classic at Bennett Court at
Quandt Fieldhouse Sunday and Monday, Dec. 27 and 28.
“We’re still figuring some stuff out,” said Amherst boys basketball
head coach Scott Groholski. “A lot of teams are already two months into
basketball, most of November and December, but with football season dragging
on, our first practice was after Thanksgiving.
“But we got almost everybody back, plus the young guys just
grew up,” he said. “So our bench just got a lot stronger.”
