Pacelli Loss Makes for Four-in-a-Row

By Jacob Mathias
The Pacelli Cardinals varsity boys basketball team fell to the Newman Catholic Fighting Cardinals 65-53 on Dec. 29 in their final game of the annual Sentry Classic.
This makes the fourth loss in a row for Pacelli who entered the game after a 77-63 loss to the Green Bay NEW Lutheran Blazers on Dec. 27. They now stand at an overall record of 2-6 and 1-2 in Central Wisconsin-Eight play.
“Jake Elliot did a good job of getting his teammates involved and letting the game come to him. We are still looking to put together two good defensive and offensive halves of basketball yet this year,” said Pacelli Head Coach Matt Resch. “The shots weren’t dropping but the kids played with a lot of heart and effort which kept us in the game.”
Senior guard Jake Elliott again led Pacelli offensively earning 26 points and bringing down four offensive rebounds. Senior forward Chris Shibilski added 10 points and five rebounds.
Elliott and Shibilski both led defensively with five rebounds each.
Leading Newman Catholic in scoring were senior forward Dane Fronek with 32 points and senior guards Jason Tubbs and Bailey Lemke both sank 12 points.
Pacelli next plays at home against the Tri-County Penguins on Jan. 5 at 7:30 PM. They stay on their home court and take on the Iola-Scandinavia Thunderbirds on Jan. 8 at 7:30 PM.
