Most County Ski Hills, Trails Remain Closed

For the City Times
Although the recent snowfall looks nice and has outdoor winter sports enthusiasts excited- It just wasn’t enough snow to provide good conditions for most activities, according to Gary Speckmann, director of the Portage County Parks Department.
“The dry, fluffy snow and high winds resulted in most of the snow being blown off the ski hills and trails,” said Speckmann.
Speckmann added the Standing Rocks Park cross country ski trails have been groomed and are in good condition. Snowmaking is currently occurring at the Standing Rocks Park downhill ski slopes with the possibility of the ski slopes opening on Jan. 2.

All Portage County snowmobile trails will remain closed until the ground freezes and additional snowfall occurs.
