Betty Jane Fischer-Iber, 88, Plover, widow of a former Stevens Point health officer and former president of the Humane Society of Portage County, died at home Saturday, Jan. 2, 2016.

A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 7, at Boston Funeral Home, with the Rev. Al Moen presiding.

Visitation will be at the funeral home from 3 p.m. Thursday until the service.

Condolences may be offered online at
www.bostonfuneralhome.net.

Mrs. Fischer-Iber was born Dec. 22, 1927, in Plainfield, a
daughter of the late Alvin and Edress (Dolan) Fischer.

She was married to Dr. Frank Iber Dec. 27, 1949. He died June
3, 1990.

She shared her love for animals by helping and supporting
the development of the Humane Society of Portage County, which officially
opened in January 1972. She later became the president of the Humane Society
and served for many years.

She was also involved with the American Cancer Society,
working countless hours as the co-chairman within rural areas.

During the summer months, she worked on flower beds at her
property and also spent time driving to Plainfield to monitor the community
changes through the years.

Survivors include two children, Renee (Thomas) Haase,
Stevens Point, and Richard (Jeff Sappanfield-Iberfield) Iber-Iberfield, Dallas,
Texas; and numerous grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Bernum and
Jerry Lee Fischer.
