Dora M. Nolan, 103, passed away at Ministry St. Michael’s Hospital on Thursday, Dec. 31, 2015.

She was born Sep. 5, 1912, in Iron Belt, Wis., the daughter of the late John and Pierina (DePra) Borca. The seventh of eight children, she was the last surviving sibling in her family. Her brothers and sisters preceding her in death were Grace (Frank) Zanella, Dorothy (Joseph) Brack, Vincent (Constance Miller) Borca, Bridget (John) Nagro, Rudolph (Phillis Tarro) Borca, Palmero (Lillian Maki) Borca and Eleanor (Fredrick) Umland.

Dora was also preceded in death by her first son, Terry (Helen Cavanaugh, Bluffton, S.C.), who unexpectedly passed away in 1998. She is survived by three sons and a daughter: George (Joanne Milkey) of Plover, Wisc., Mary Ellen (Gerald) Pardun of Rhinelander, Wisc., John (Kathleen Milkey) of Mosinee, Wisc., and Daniel of Denver, Colo.

She is further survived by eight grandchildren: Molly (Lee) Wilkinson of Vienna, Virginia, Kate (Carl) Simon of Olney, Maryland, Patrick (Jennifer) of Manitowoc, Wisc., Tom (Christine) of Wisconsin Rapids, Wisc., Kelly (Matt) Raduechel of Wausau, Wisc., Angela (Mike) Jandourek of Neenah, Wisc., Colleen (Steve) Nolan-Pardun of Oregon, Wisc., and Marie Pardun of Chippewa Falls, Wisc.; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Dora graduated from Iron Belt High School in 1930 and attended business school in Milwaukee before returning to the Hurley, Wisc., area where she worked for several years for Paul’s Store. She was working there when she met Theodore Nolan (1912-1992) and they were married in Saxon, Wisc., on Aug. 12, 1940. They immediately left for South Bend, Indiana, where they lived briefly until the beginning of World War II. They then returned to Northern Wisconsin and began to raise their family.

Because of her husband’s job, Dora and he moved their family throughout the upper Midwest, living in Thief River Falls, Minn., Bismark, North Dakota, Pence, Wisc., and Stevens Point, Wisc. In 1969, they moved to Marquette, Mich., until 1974, when they retired and settled in Stevens Point.

She was an active member of the Catholic Church and a member of the Catholic Daughters. She was always dressed fashionably and took great pride in her appearance and wardrobe.

Dora was an artist who enjoyed painting, needlework and other crafts. An avid golfer, Dora played until she was 89-years-old and was a member of the Wisconsin River Country Club Women’s League. She was also a passionate bridge player and her name was often mentioned in the newspaper for her bridge playing skills. She was a member of the Stevens Point Duplicate Bridge and Towne Bridge Clubs but was forced to give up playing bridge when she was 99-years-old because of macular degeneration. She spent her later years enjoying time with her friends and family.

The Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Jan. 4, 2016, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 1709 Wyatt Avenue, Stevens Point, with the Rev. Dennis Stanchik officiating. Visitation will begin at 9:00 a.m. Monday at the church. Burial will take place in Ironwood, Mich., next to her husband in the spring.
