Don J. Remington
Don J. Remington, 89, Iola, a former owner of the IGA store in Iola, died Wednesday, Jan. 6, 2016, at Ministry St. Michael’s Hospital, in Stevens Point.
A Memorial Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 12, at St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Church in Waupaca, with the Rev. Xavier Santiago officiating.
Visitation will be at the church from 10 a.m. Tuesday until the Mass.
Voie Funeral Home in Iola assisted with arrangements.

Mr. Remington was born March 1, 1926, in Antigo, a son of
the late Charles “Roy” and Eunice (Bessey) Remington.
He was married to Dorothy “Dot” Golis July 19, 1947, in
Baltimore, Md.
He was a World War II U.S. Army veteran, serving from Oct.
30, 1945, to March 15, 1947. He served in Germany as a tank destroyer in
Division 636.
In 2011, he flew to Washington, D.C. on the “Honor Flight.”
He was a member of the Sheveland Taylor American Legion Post
14.
He had worked as a meat cutter and later supervisor for
Copps.
In 1966, he and his wife purchased Adam’s IGA from Adam
Horle and renamed it Iola IGA. In 1980, they built a new store on Meadow Road
in Iola. In 1995, they sold the store to their son, Dan.
His hobbies include hunting and fishing. He was a member of
the Purple Martins. Don loved music. He played several instruments and was a
barbershop singer. For years, he participated at the Iola Aquatic Center.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy “Dot” Remington; four sons,
Dale (Wendy L.) Remington, Iola. Dan (Kathy) Remington, Scandinavia, Dean
(Wendy J.) Remington, Manawa, and Rick (Heather) Remington, Menomonie; 14
grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by two sons, Darrell and Rex
Remington; one brother, Jack Remington; and two sisters, Vera Tveton and Jean
Freiburger.
