Captain Jodi Baganz from the Steves Point Fire Dept. teases the newly-promoted Stevens Point Police Sgt. Bob Kussow with last year’s championship trophy from the 2015 Guns & Hoses charity softball game. SPFD has won both games since the event’s inception locally.
The two both participated in last year’s exhibition softball game at Bukolt Park. The third annual game is slated for late August.
After two years of the friendly softball rivalry, the event has raised more than $72,000 for Never Forgotten Honor Flight and for local veteran’s organizations.
The 2016 event, which is being overseen by former Police Chief Kevin Ruder, will also involve law enforcement officers from the Portage Co. Sheriff’s Office and Plover Police Department.
“That’s the only way [SPPD] will win- by bringing in ringers,” Baganz joked.
