Jake Elliott sets Pacelli scoring record with 51 points

Pacelli High School senior guard Jake Elliott set a
single-game scoring record, as the Cardinals (4-9, 2-4) beat Manawa 84-48 Tuesday,
Jan. 19.
Elliott scored 51 points to break the record that
James Gollon set last year with 49 points against Manawa Jan. 9, 2015. Before
that, Gollon established the school record earlier last season with 47 points against
Stratford Dec. 2, 2014, to break the mark of 43 points that was set by John
Jakusz against Marshfield Columbus in 1956 and equaled by Mike Fortune against
Ashland DePadua in 1962.
Elliott shot 19-of-27 from the field (70.4 percent),
5-of-9 from three-point range and 9-of-11 from the free-throw line to finish
with 51 points, while he also added five rebounds.
“Jake
Elliott did a great job of being efficient and getting to the rim while
dropping a school-record 51 points,” said Pacelli boys basketball head coach
Matt Resch. “He was in a special zone and his teammates did a great job of
finding him in the open area.”
The Cardinals led 35-23 at halftime, and then
outscored Manawa 49-25 in the second half. Andrew Blanker added 11 points and
four rebounds and Garret Parks pulled down 11 rebounds.
“Andrew
had a nice game for us, contributing 11 points off the bench,” said Resch. “He
was hunting his shot and knocking them down when he had the chance.
“Ethan
Jansch and Garret Parks did a great job of grabbing rebounds,” he said. “The
kids stepped up the intensity defensively, which led to many easy buckets.”
